Holiday Prep Guide
Woohoo! You just signed up for your holiday mini session! I can’t wait to see you. Here’s a look at some past holidays with LovelyInk Creative, a look at this year’s celebration, and tips to really bring that holiday cheer!
The ‘fits
You’re feeling holly jolly and you want an outfit to match! Consider starting your outfit with a holiday staple like red and greens or plaids. If you’re feeling more adventurous, make it a little funky by adding other bright colors! Below are some other fun colors that will go with this year’s indoor holiday theme. Metallics also work as a neutral during the holiday season!
Suggested color palette
You know I love color…
… and this year is no exception! I am fascinated by the aesthetic worlds that filmmaker Wes Anderson creates. In addition to the nostalgic and retro-inspired feel, he chooses very deliberate color palettes and pays particular attention to small details. This year’s set will be bold, colorful, and a little bit audacious. I even found an awesome blog post from Wool & Whiskers that gives you style tips to dress like a Wes Anderson character.

Basic Wardrobe Tips
• Bold, neutral, and jewel-toned colors work great with my editing style and suit all skin tones
• Wear layers and flowy clothing to add movement
• Large prints and textures add visual interest
• Skip any neon or fluorescent colors – they cast unwanted colors on your skin
• Consider undergarment lines and straps
• Steam or iron your outfits, if needed
• Add accessories like jackets, belts, and hats
Note: Skip any hats that sit low on the forehead – they can create a shadow over your lovely face
• Think about your hair and skin
• Nails should be clean and in your preferred style
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

My goal is to make photos feel less like a chore, and more like family fun! Try planning photos on a day that you won’t be rushing from one thing to the next. When you’re done, you could even share a meal and talk about the fantastic time you had!
The best way to get kids to smile is to keep it light. I recommend that no discipline take place before or during the session, unless they are a danger to people or the environment. It’s much easier for me to re-direct kids or play games instead of parents breaking the fun to stop perceived misbehavior. Parents set the mood, and your little ones probably watched you prep for this session. Show them just how exciting and fun family photos can be!
