Jan. '23 Self-Portrait Session: Retro Boudoir
Personal creative work.
I know it sounds like a made up thing.
Creativity is meant to be fun, freeing… fulfilling? But when you work in a creative field, it can be hard to shut off the business side of your brain. When I looked at what I wanted in my business this year, it was evolution.
Fresh creativity, new perspectives, reaching further into moments.
So I decided to take on a 2023 challenge!
It’s my own challenge, and I can almost guarantee I will fail at parts of it. That’s ok, though. This challenge isn’t meant for perfection; it’s meant for creation.
Step 1. Make it personal
A series of self-portraits. Seeing myself from new angles and perspectives. Looking at myself in a new light. As an aside, its interesting editing photos of myself. I’ll talk more about that in the coming months, I’m sure.
Step 2: Use a creative eye
Each shoot needs to have a creative theme or element for me to practice. The truth is, these photos did not go as planned. I wanted to work on a specific lighting style and 20 minutes into my attempted, including trial and error, I decided to scratch that plan. I was getting interesting work, even thought it wasn’t what I planned. I’ll head back to that original idea in the future!
Step 3: Make it work *said in a Ru Paul voice*
I’m going all in on these. I don’t know that I’ll be able to successfully complete a shoot each month but any that I do create will have my heart fully in it! Hope you’ll follow along. 🖤
