This is a story of best-laid plans, and really fun results.

I’ve been photographing this sweet family since 2018 (AHHH!) and we’ve had all kinds of adventures. Last summer, we decided to meet at Portage Lakes State Park to play on the beach, with the intention to get our feet wet at the end. Mother Nature had other plans!

We watched the weather all day and couldn’t decide if we should postpone. We decided to go with it! As it happens, it started raining a few minutes after we arrived. We decided instead of stopping the session and letting the rain spoil our evening, we would take the opportunity for some fun and games.

Since I didn’t feel like we had quite gotten the “put it on the fridge” family photo, I invited them back for a fall mini session to make sure we got some great portraits.

I always have such a great time with this family but the biggest thing I always take away is their connection, and their willingness to let me join in for an hour or so! I believe their effort to play and enjoy each other is what creates the magic in these images.

I can’t wait to see them for their session this year!
