Creative Family Session: Lynch Family

This session got my creative juices going! Mom has THE BEST style. When she told me they wanted something fresh and different for this year’s family photos, I knew I would have the opportunity to build out a few ideas that were in my brain.

All it took us was a few texts back and forth with overall vibes goals and outfit ideas. Our base plan with this look was moody and creative, leaning into shadows and staying really casual. Mom already had a feel for the outfits so we planned the color scheme and feel around that!

Fun fact: there are a few spots where you can see a “JA” on the drop cloth hanging behind them. This is where my weird quirky brain gets extra points! My father retired as a contractor a few years ago, and when he was paring down the tools he wanted to keep into retirement, I asked if I could have the drop cloths he wanted to throw away. He thought I was totally weird but I feel pretty vindicated that they make such a cool and different background! They also add some movement into the set, to pair perfectly with mom’s skirt.

Something I try to focus on is giving each kiddo time to play in front of the camera, and the space to do it. Ryker and I have had plenty of time together over the years so he was happy to go first and show Miss Ensley how it’s done! She watched him carefully and when he hopped down from the chair we started to encourage her, telling her that she was next. She needed absolutely NO coaxing and walked straight to the chair and tried to climb up! While we would have taken it slow or rearranged the set to make her more comfortable, it was so cute that she watched big brother and knew exactly how she wanted to take hers!

Next up: parent snuggles!! Giving each parent a special time with their little ones is something I make a point to do at every session because it really shows the connection and individual relationships. There’s something so unique about these unposed shows of affection that give the feeling of real life as opposed to posed portraits. I love capturing a mixture of both.

Finally, we had a little change of scenery because, honestly, what kid (or grown up 👋) doesn’t love a little jump on the bed?! Their outfits fit the vibe of the studio perfectly so it was easy to add another quick setup without losing the kiddo’s attention!

I am so grateful to this family for trusting me with their vision and family photos over the years. I’ve been invited into their home, I’ve celebrated milestones and births, and it is such an honor to grow alongside them!

Considering what style would fit your family? Let’s get creative, and build a session that really matches the energy of your crew!
