Birth Collection: Commonly Asked Questions!
There are so many things to consider after you find out you’re pregnant! Let’s take the guess work out of photos. I’m going to showcase this beautiful family while walking you through images from a full Birth Collection and answering commonly asked questions!
Q: I’m not sure if I want a maternity session. Is it worth it?
A: Pregnancy is such a beautiful thing. The idea that we can create and protect another human life is, frankly, INCREDIBLE. Having a body capable of holding additional space for another, and then returning (more or less) back to itself after, is an amazing gift. As a mother, one of my only regrets from my pregnancy is not understanding how much I would want those photos to look back on.
In addition to having these keepsakes for yourself, psychologists have studied the effect of having family photographs displayed in the home and found that children with photographs displayed in the home grew up with more confidence and a stronger sense of belonging than those who didn’t. They also had a better understanding of where they came from. Imagine being able to start giving your little one a confidence boost from the moment they come home from the hospital! This is why I’m such a huge proponent of creating heirloom artwork!
Q: What if I have a different idea for my maternity or newborn sessions than what I’ve seen from you before?
A: That’s the beauty of the creative process! Could I do session after session using the same location and poses? Absolutely. Will you end up with better photos if your session feels authentic and mirrors the life you live? Without a doubt, yes!! So let’s get together and create.
Q: How do I choose the best location, and what are my options?
A: In short, the options are endless. When you book your session, I offer a full location guide to give you ideas and recommendations! In studio maternity sessions can offer a high-end portrait feel in addition to lifestyle photos with your partner or family. Outdoor sessions can create fun and unique images, depending on weather and location. Have a favorite spot for your family? Think: ice cream shop, favorite park, or family property. If it feels like home to your family, let’s go!
Q: How do we set up the newborn session?
A: Open communication! I keep your due date on my calendar to remind myself to keep session openings in the weeks surrounding the due date. All I ask is that you keep me up to date on your progress and give me a head’s up when you go into labor, or have just had the babe. Everyone is different through this experience, and your comfort is my biggest care.
In addition, some parents are choosing to delay newborn photos. Since my style is documentary and lifestyle portraits, that works perfectly! My focus is on family connection and documenting the beginning of this new chemistry. If your family needs a few weeks, that’s absolutely ok! Don’t worry; we’ll still get some precious photos of fingers and toes.
